The third track from our 10" Vinyl EP, “Collide” drops online next week! We're excited to see what you guys think!
Putting this track together was one of my most fun production experiences, mostly done in the old studio at Vachau Studios here in Thessaloniki, before we got kicked out for them to turn it into an Airbnb… I have the best memories trying to recreate the acoustic guitar sample, which went on to feature in the final track. I could never get the feel of it the same when trying to put it down in a more old-fashioned, natural take. What you hear on the track is copy pasted from the original demo take I recorded when we were first shaping the song… I must have tried 5 different mics and did three separate sessions to try and get that thing right, I shouldn't have bothered! The original demo snippet always beat the session. Sometimes this is how it goes, you just have to go with your gut, polished isn't always better after all. Well, in my opinion at least…
The following pic shows me struggling to recreate the guitar sound, and checking leads/inputs round the back of my Neve Pre-Amp to see what's up…
We have a video also dropping with the single, but we will probably put that out a week after it hits the streams so we don't spend all our social media currency in one shot…
The song is about the moment where you realise the exciting friction of a relationship is turning into something more and more toxic, and not managing to navigate yourself out of it very well... Ad is responsible for the wordsmithery 100% on this one. We really hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
The track also features Andy from the band (TMB) on bass guitar, drums by Ad mostly, and I did all the rest. The synth samples in the intro and throughout were from an idea by Ad and the solo style ebow line in the break is me trying to make a guitar sound like a synth. You can also hear Ad on some BV's throughout.
